My family has been using this setup for many years (sometime before 2006, for sure, and many years before that). When I was doing one of my usual searches for useful inventions at Amazon in May of 2019, it looked like people were still buying inferior car trash can contraptions and complaining about them.

Our first attempt at this setup was to put a small trash can (vanity wastebasket) in a mini crate from a dollar store. That was OK, the crate kept the wastebasket from falling over, but the wind would get up under the bag if the windows were down, so we put a couple of small bungee cords around the can (linked together). Those cords were later replaced with a single 24 inch bungee cord. The crate eventually needed to be replaced, so we bought a cheap mini crate from Home Depot. This is what our setup looks like now:

Below is a list of what you'll need if you want to have a similar setup:

Summary: mini crate, 6 quart wastebasket, 8 gallon medium garbage bags, and 24 inch bungee cord with plastic hooks.

With this setup, our small trash can has never fallen over. No guarantees that it will work for you, but I don't see why it wouldn't if you buy items that are similar to what we use. As it says at the bottom of the page, use this setup at your own risk.

Although I call this setup “untippable,” I'm talking about our experiences with vehicle movement. No sharp curve we have taken has ever knocked it over. No one reaching back to throw something away has ever knocked it over. I'm sure a pet or a child having a tantrum could kick it over, but they're supposed to be belted in while the vehicle is moving. If a child or pet is hopping around the car while you are driving, you have bigger problems.

The Good and the Bad

Negative ions are good for us. You might want to avoid positive ion generators and ozone generators. Whenever I need a new air cleaner (with negative ion generator), I buy it from surroundair.com. A plain old air cleaner is better than nothing, but one that produces negative ions makes the air in a room fresher and easier to breathe. It also helps to brighten my mood.

Never litter. If you can't find a trash can, take it home and throw it away there.

Hydrofracking is bad for you, your family, your friends, and the environment.

Some people appear to have a mental illness because they have a vitamin B deficiency. I take B-Right.

Unfermented soy is bad! “When she stopped eating soy, the mental problems went away.”

Use this trash can setup at your own risk. If you get into an accident, just like any other loose object in your vehicle, it could fly up and hit somebody and hurt them or even kill them.
