I asked Grok 3 at Twixter if it could make an online tool that would let me look at the graphics of Atari 2600 .bin files and it gave me the code before I could take my hands off the keyboard. Then Grok 3 suggested more features. Then I asked if sprites could be converted to batari Basic sprite data and I had the code in seconds. Grok 3 also made changes based on feedback from AtariAge members.
Control Section
Use the ‘Choose File’ button to upload an Atari 2600 .bin file and see all non-zero byte runs in ‘Raw Data’ below, followed by auto-detected sprite graphics in ‘Detected Sprites.’ Click ‘Flip Sprites’ to toggle all sprites upside down or back, adjusting their orientation as needed. The ‘Zoom’ dropdown scales the sprite size (4x, 8x, or 12x) for a closer or wider view. The ‘Density’ dropdown tweaks how many sprites are auto-detected—lower values (for example, 12.5%) show more sprites with extra junk, higher values (for example, 50%) show fewer with less junk.
Raw Chunks
Left-click a raw chunk of bytes to highlight it yellow and add it to the ‘Detected Sprites,’ section (click again to remove it).
batari Basic Data
Left-click any raw chunk of bytes or detected sprite to see its batari Basic data in the bB Sprite Data box. The bB data will match the flip setting you have selected. Once you have bB data in the box, left-click the data to highlight it all—then use Ctrl+C or right-click menu to copy it.
Shrink Unwanted Sprites
If you see a detected sprite that you're not interested in and you'd like to shrink it down to a thin bar to get it out of your way, just right-click the sprite to replace it with a thin bar (right-click the bar to restore the sprite). For mouse gesture users, be sure to hold the mouse steady to avoid gesture triggers. Feel free to shrink down as many sprites as you need, just be careful if you use mouse gestures so you won't leave the page.
F S D
Press ‘F’ on your keyboard to jump to the control section where the ‘Flip Sprites’ button is. Press ‘S’ to jump to the ‘Detected Sprites’ section. Press ‘D’ to jump to the bB Sprite Data box.
