Useful tips, tools, and tutorials.

Opinion page by Duane Alan Hahn.

I only link to sites here that have useful information or tools. If you are a web designer, please do not ask me to link to your site here. This page is not for promoting web design services. If you have a site that has web design info or cool tools, I'll be glad to link to that. Just contact me and if I think your site is useful, I'll add a link to it on this page.

TRUSTe Privacy Resources

You can download a free Microsoft Word document from the page above called Model Privacy Policy Disclosures that tells you how to create a privacy policy. It's kind of a fill in the blanks tutorial. It's one of the best things I've seen so far. If you want to try various affiliate programs, you will need to make a privacy policy sooner or later. Some affiliate programs require it.

WebSpeed Simulator

Although this is not freeware (30 day free trial), I had to list this here since it's so good. It simulates the various connection speeds from super-slow 1200 bps, all the way up to LAN speed. You don't have to be online to use it either. You can check out your web site locally, straight off your computer. The company claims that the program does not interfere with your machine setup or network, and it seems to be true. I tried it on my web site (locally) using various speeds, including 56 Kbps (V.90), and it worked great. The program helped me find a couple of trouble spots. I'll probably buy it whenever I have some extra money.

Google Gadgets For Your Web Site

They have a lot of useless crap, but there are some useful items you can add to your web site that your visitors might enjoy.

LinkChecker add-on for Firefox

Firefox users don't have to use those boring, tedious, inadequate link checkers. We have a better, faster alternative. The LinkChecker add-on by Kevin Freitas allows you to browse your web site and check your inks right there on each page. Broken links are highlighted as red and good links are highlighted as green. No more looking at a list and hunting down the broken links on a page; immediately see where the broken links are!
