Thoughts on Health and Weight LossThings you may not know that could change your life.

The following health tips worked for me (I lost over 100 pounds back in 1989), but everyone is different, so what works for one person may not work for another (especially if a person has a rare health problem or is on certain medications). I am not giving out medical advice, so put down the phone; you don't need to call a lawyer. Get your doctor's permission before even thinking about changing your diet, trying a health product, or doing anything else health related.
Weight and Health Most people only understand fat and thin when they talk about health. There's more to health than how much you weigh. Are you properly digesting the foods you eat, are you getting all of the nutrients out of it? Are you eating enough high-water content foods? Is your system as alkaline as it should be? Thin people can be as unhealthy as fat people and not even know it.
Three Things The three main things that I have learned over the years from reading health and diet information are:
To be clear, you don't have to be a stressed out person who is frightened of everything to be interested in this stuff. It's not about fear. Not everyone interested in health worries about it. There is no wringing of hands, no gnashing of teeth. When some health idea that you haven't heard of before shows up on your radar screen, you check it out and see if your ideas about health need an adjustment.
The food some people eat every day suppresses their potential and can cause all kinds of health problems. By avoiding certain foods, some people: seem to have a higher I.Q., are able to concentrate better, can get back to their ideal weight, have clearer skin, get rid of mood swings and violent behavior, get rid of various pains, and the list goes on. For those people, giving up foods that provided a living hell in exchange for a more fulfilling, happier life is a fair trade.
It's great if you think you are not adversely affected by any foods, colors, preservatives, flavor enhancers, and so on and are living up to your potential, but not everyone is so lucky. One size does not always fit all. What seems to work for you may not work for others. What you think is working for you may not even be working for you.
Proper Food Combining It doesn't matter what wacky explanations have been given for why food combing works, the important thing is that it does work. If a person without a special health problem eats a single type of fresh, clean, uncooked fruit (without added salt or sugar) on an empty stomach, it will leave the stomach much faster than if it was eaten with other foods. The same goes for meat and starchy foods such as bread and pasta (both can be eaten with certain vegetables without a problem though).
You can find many ignorant (but highly educated) people who say that food combining is "utter nonsense," but most have not tried it. If they tried it for even a week, they would be convinced that the stomach empties out faster when food is combined properly. Getting them to admit that it works would be the hard part. There's also the added problem that some people are so out of touch with their bodies that they wouldn't know if it worked or not.
Not only does the stomach empty out faster, it also seems to take less time for the food to go through the intestines. Since the food isn't sitting around as long, the result for many people is healthy weight loss. No diet pills, potions, or shakes, just an adjustment in when you eat your favorite foods. No big deal.
Another benefit for many people is no more upset stomach. They no longer have a need for prescription tummy ache drugs and over-the-counter remedies to put out the fire.
No Calorie Counting for Me Some people like to count calories and love to write down every little thing they do. I don't like counting calories and my days go by so fast that it's almost impossible to keep any kind of journal, especially a food journal. That's why I was glad to hear about proper food combining back in 1989. I could eat as much as I wanted without counting calories and I still lost the weight (I tried not to overeat though). For people who don't know how to judge what is considered overeating, all you have to do is make a fist. That represents the most food you should eat at a meal (try to picture all of your food smooshed together to estimate).
Food combining was all about getting the food from your belly to your butt as fast as possible. When you eat all kinds of different foods at the same time, it usually sits in your stomach much longer than it should. Proper food combining also gives you more energy since your body spends less time on digestion.
Unhealthy Vegetarians Some people think that you have to become a weak, brittle, pasty looking health nut to be interested in this subject, but you really don't. The reason why so many vegetarians look like crap is because they usually eat as much cooked food as meat eaters and most of it is worse than meat. They'd be better off eating meat than some of the stuff they eat. If they really want to be healthier vegetarians, they should eat mostly clean, fresh, uncooked fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, and they would probably look a lot better and would have more energy.
If you aren't a vegetarian, you don't have to become one to be healthier, but you can be kinder to your body more often, have more energy, feel better and still have the foods that you love. If you don't feel like combining your food properly today, there's always tomorrow. There's no guilt, no demands, no punishments. Just do what you can when you can.
Drunken Sailors Every once in a while a person will say that they have relatives that lived the life of a drunken sailor and didn't have health problem their whole lives. It is possible for certain people (who were lucky enough be born with good genes) to eat tons of junk food, drink lots of coffee, drink gallons of booze, have unprotected sex with diseased prostitutes, and so on without getting sick, but most people aren't that lucky. For many of us, the solution is to keep our systems as clean as possible if we want to avoid sickness and disease.
Whey is Good for You? I don't get this whole thing about whey being good for you. Whey is bad for you isn't it? I thought people such as Harvey Diamond said that whey is something companies wanted to get rid of, so they started putting it in our foods instead of paying to have it disposed of because it's cheaper. Our food is used as a garbage dump to save them money and we allow it to happen. That's why so many foods taste so bad now (for people who can taste the difference). We're told these things are harmless or even good for us and we believe it.

Back in the late 1980s, we bought a weight loss tape from the Joe Land Company and it worked great. We only had it for a few months before we lost it in a move. We tried a couple of different subliminal tapes over the years from other companies, but the only one that ever worked was the one we got from the Joe Land Company. I was happy to find out that not only can you still get the tapes, but you can now get it on Compact Disc. My family bought the weight loss CD (October 2003) and it seems to be working just like the old tape did.

I have not tried most of them, but I sure would like to.
